In this work-in-progress, Maja explores the process of creating a play through text and songs, developing an original theatrical form, along with her permanent music collaborator, Ivan Kapec.

Here, Maja is questioning the boundaries of private and stage personality and authorship, starting with the music project Poma 2018 and continuing with the theatre project 2022. The first cycle of the project was implemented in October 2022 in the Theater &td.

The author deals with the topic of communication both in her immediate family and in the broader community, all from the perspective of women. Those are women whose lives she has heard about through family stories and from friends’ personal history. What changes have occurred in our way of communicating? What was once forbidden to talk about but is taken for granted today? Through music and lyrics, we get into the hidden emotions of the female characters and imagine that maybe they are the authors of those lyrics and that their voices, unspoken thoughts, needs, or messages can be heard through the song. By abstracting certain events, we arrive at personal stories in which modernity is inevitably intertwined.

How does an individual deal with the heritage of her culture and how does she fit it into the current era of new challenges and insecurities?
A long-standing idea and a natural continuation of my work is creating a musical performance as a personal and intimate manuscript that supports dynamic forms of acting in a branched structure.

WHO IS POMA?

Poma is an author’s alias, and Maja tries to combine her musical and theatrical experience by creating original projects unencumbered by previous authors’ work, either as an actress or as a musician. Poma arose as a need for research, experiment and collaboration.
